Lin Chen, a rookie martial artist fresh from the mountains, is arrested by the police as soon as he arrives in the city for beating up a “stray cat.”
Instead, he’s recruited by the mysterious Department of Exotic Beast Countermeasures, becoming a salaried martial artist earning 8,000 yuan a month with full benefits. To conceal his identity, they enroll him as a transfer student at a university and hand him a little memory-wiping hammer. It’s meant for bonking witnesses on the back of the head: one whack, instant amnesia, with a headache left behind.
Campus life is absurd:
By day, he has to deal with advanced math classes and bizarre roommates. By night, he chases exotic beasts all over campus. After beating up a bully, he has to make it look like an accident, and when wiping someone’s memory, he has to come up with an excuse: “Hey, you’ve got something on your head!”
Then he hits campus beauty Li Mengyao three times.
The first time, she catches him fighting a night-crying bird, and he talks her into believing they’re “filming a short movie.” The second time, she sees a gym window shatter, and he tells her, “That was a special effect.” The third time, he raises the hammer but doesn’t bring it down.
Now there’s a problem:
Li Mengyao keeps getting headaches at the back of her head, and the way she looks at him is getting more and more suspicious. She’s even started investigating the campus “paranormal incidents.” Meanwhile, Lin Chen is close to earning enough System points to unlock a new skill, but he has to walk a tightrope between “keeping his identity secret,” “hitting his KPIs,” and “not knocking the heroine unconscious again.”
Worse, the villainous organization New God Society has its eye on the campus and is planning to make headlines.
So his daily routine now goes like this: help the top student with advanced math in the morning, use true qi to keep milk tea warm in the afternoon, then dodge the heroine’s detective-like gaze at night while running around campus with his hammer, whacking exotic beasts. He still has to find time to deal with the students who gather to watch
