Late at night, I got a food delivery order to an old apartment building.
When I arrived, the whole building was eerily silent.
The elevator stopped by itself on the thirteenth floor, but there was no one outside.
There was only a note: “Leave it outside 1304. Don’t look back.”
I turned to leave, when a whisper suddenly came from behind me: “Could your delivery... buy me another day of life?”
My phone lit up: “Additional survival time credited. Balance: 4 days.”
