[Palace Intrigue + System + Feel-Good + Comedy + Reborn + Subverting Expectations + Everyone Misreads Everything]
In her previous life, Shen Yu was a vicious empress who defeated everyone in her path, only to be struck dead by lightning on the day she reached the top. Reborn as the least-favored, sickly beauty in the imperial harem, she binds herself to the [Saintly Merit System].
[Quest: Rescue the imperial cat from drowning. Reward: One extra day of life.]
Too ill to get out of bed, Shen Yu pushes her archrival into the water instead. “My younger sister loves cats so much that she risked her own life! Someone, hurry and help her!”
After her rival is pulled from the water, she watches Shen Yu receive a reward for “saving the cat” and faints on the spot with rage.
[Quest: Expose a corrupt official and seek justice for the people. Reward: +10 beauty.]
Shen Yu turns around and gives the corrupt official money, helping him embezzle even more, then “accidentally” leaves the account books in the imperial study. The emperor sees the evidence and flies into a rage. The official’s estate is confiscated, and the people are deeply grateful.
The entire harem waits to see how she’ll “do good deeds and build merit,” only to watch her use the most ruthless methods to accomplish the most wonderful acts of kindness.
When she rises to the top again on the strength of her “merit,” everyone kneels at her feet, trembling.
“Your Highness, please, stop doing good deeds! We’re scared!”
Shen Yu (smiling): “I’m just a kindhearted soul who loves helping others.”
