In 2030, global nuclear war erupted. Nine-tenths of the cities on Earth’s surface were reduced to ruins, and nuclear radiation caused plants and animals to mutate. Rats grew as large as hunting dogs, while wild grass could strangle humans. The mutated creatures were not only physically formidable, but had also developed intelligence on par with humans, forming groups that occupied the ruins. The nuclear war triggered violent tectonic shifts, and primordial creatures from the Earth’s inner magma layer seized the chance to tear through the surface and invade human settlements. Humanity designated the year the nuclear war ended as Year One of the Nuclear Era.
