The sword ban in Edo was so strict that the purple-haired ronin Kazama Shiraben carried a red tachi and went about his day with a list of part-time jobs.
He and Shinpachi Shimura worked together in the same izakaya, and had to disguise their tachi as an extra-long sashimi knife when carrying dishes and running errands. Unexpectedly, a natural man who was eating and drinking suddenly burst in, and even took away the strawberry milk in the store on credit, it was Sakata Gintoki. In order to keep his part-time job, Ziren teamed up with Shinpachi to "drive away" the scoundrel, but instead he was tricked by Gintoki into doing odd jobs for the Master House. From then on, the working samurai sneaked into the Master House, and in the cracks of the sword ban, they staged one life-saving farce after another that brought laughter to tears.
