When I found myself walking into a strange theater troupe, the note in the costume had a line of blood written on it:
"When you perform on stage, you become whatever you play. If you play the wrong role, you will be erased immediately."
When I play the role of a scholar, I can seduce ghosts with my pen; when I play the role of an executioner, I can kill real ghosts with my sword.
The audience was full of people, but they were not people - they applauded with distorted smiles, cheering for a real death.
I became the most popular character, but there were fifty blood contracts hidden in my costume - those were the suicide notes left by the fifty actors in front of me, who had performed to the point where their names had been eaten by the characters.
Until the scene in "Farewell My Concubine", the system actually asked me to play two roles at the same time:
"Tonight, you play both the overlord who commits suicide and the concubine who commits suicide for love."
Under the stage, all the "audiences" slowly tore off the human skin, revealing blood-red eyes:
"Finally we've been waiting for this scene - actors killing each other is the best scene."
I smiled, my sword-drawing hand steady.
