Beneath the surface of human civilization lies a colossal facility spanning dimensions, built to contain and manage "historical narrative entities": the Ruins of All Histories. When enough people share a powerful belief in a particular historical narrative for long enough, that narrative may gain "weight" and coalesce into a "historical entity" with a consciousness of its own and the ability to distort reality. The Ruins of All Histories exists to contain and manage these entities, preventing them from escaping and contaminating reality, and maintaining the "stability" and "purity" of history in the surface world.
Yet an ultimate truth has been hidden beneath layer upon layer: the Ruins of All Histories is itself a cage. What it imprisons is not history, but humanity's ability to face the pain of reality.
