Through Wind and Snow to Chang'an

From Ding Kaishan’s solitary figure amid Chang’an’s snow and wind, to a desperate flight through Datong’s sandstorms, then a deadly battle to return home beneath the white haze of the salt flats, and finally the settled cooking smoke and legacy of the loess plateau: three volumes, one unbroken spirit. Gu Long’s stark restraint and Tomato’s gripping, cathartic plot are wrapped in the desolate weight of the yellow earth, bringing the story to a satisfying close. Synopsis of Snow and Wind in Chang’an Snow has fallen on Zhongnan Mountain for three years. At Yuntai Abbey, a young man lies low in arduous cultivation, his sword intent sheathed in frost. But on the night of the Dragon Boat Festival, he makes a careless mistake and leaves behind a trace. A flaw in his clothes leads his enemies to search the mountain, and the quiet, frigid years of hiding are suddenly swept up in murderous danger. At seventeen, he descends the mountain with his skills perfected and ventures alone into the capital. Moonlight cuts like a blade, splitting the mist around the imperial city. He cleverly obtains ironclad evidence from Heshen’s treasure vault, believing he has secured the key to clearing his family’s name. Yet he has no idea the game unfolding in the capital is far more treacherous than he imagined. A thousand-mile dash to Hanzhong, an ambush on the official road, a city stormed through battle formations, and a life-or-death ordeal at high noon: the blood spilled stains the yellow earth road red. This is the foundation of his vengeance, the mark of a father and son’s bond. The loss of those dearest to him tempers the young man’s ruthlessness into something colder still. Returning to the abbey drenched in blood, Ding Chengye reveals a secret on his deathbed: his great-uncle is a venomous snake who has been lurking at his side all along. As tears fall at Yuntai, the young man sheds his immaturity and takes up the banner of the Ding clan. Only when his father’s old comrades gather around him does he understand: the snow of Zhongnan, the moon over the capital, and the blood of Hanzhong were only the prologue to this storm sweeping through the martial world. And the snow and wind in Chang’an are still waiting for him, ready to unleash an even greater tempest.
