Grand Tutor, Please Show Me the Ropes

On our wedding night, the Grand Preceptor handed me a set of “Guidelines for Working Together as Husband and Wife.” Rule One: Keep me company on the fifteenth of every month while I detox. Rule Two: Help me uncover the truth behind the massacre twenty years ago. Rule Three: Pretend to be a loving couple when necessary. Yan Simiao signed, thinking this was nothing more than a transaction. Until... When we were attacked during the spring hunt, he took an arrow for me. “My lady, Rule One of the contract: rescue each other when in danger.” While investigating a case in Jiangnan, I cleverly obtained the evidence. “My lord, Rule Two of the contract: help each other solve the case.” At the Empress Dowager's birthday banquet, when I was framed, he confronted my accusers before the entire court. “Whoever harms my wife, no matter how far away, will be punished!” Everyone said the Grand Preceptor and his wife were deeply devoted to each other. Only she knew how tightly he gripped her wrist whenever his poison flared each night. Only he knew how determined she looked as she secretly pored over medical texts searching for an antidote.
