Synopsis of The Lazybones and the Simpleton of Shilixiang Village
In Shilixiang Village, Chen Daqing is despised by everyone as “the lazybones.” Well into adulthood, he still loafs around and lives off his family's savings. Li Xiaofang is the village's pitiful “simpleton.” A fever damaged her brain when she was three, and she can't even work out one plus one.
When the village chief tries to seize the Li family's orchard and force the simpleton to “marry” the village bully, a bachelor, Daqing, who is too lazy even to leave his house, plants himself at the Li family's gate with a cane. As it turns out, he hasn't left home in three years because he's been growing rare medicinal herbs worth millions in his courtyard. And the reason Xiaofang is simple-minded is that she was injured saving him from drowning years ago.
The villagers all expect a joke, but they can only watch as Daqing uses herb contracts to rebuild Shilixiang Village, while the “simpleton” turns out to be the only one who can identify medicinal seedlings, a true “genius.”
This is a story of prejudice and truth, guilt and redemption. While everyone laughs at them, the two of them grow a spring from the ruins.
