The cold-faced Prince of War x the gentle, compassionate imperial physician
A marriage before love, then love after marriage & salvation through life and death
Beneath the weight of family and country, we are all accomplices
To quell a plague on the border, Xiao Jue, the celebrated Prince of Zhenbei, is forced to marry Shen Zhizhou, a low-ranking imperial physician rumored to cure every illness. Xiao Jue is gravely ill with a strange poison. Their marriage begins as a contract built on mutual use, but gradually they become each other’s only support and salvation.
At first, Xiao Jue sees Shen Zhizhou as “medicine” and warns himself not to fall for him. Shen Zhizhou, trying to protect himself, sticks to his duties as a physician and dares not cross the line. They waver between relying on each other when illness strikes in the dead of night and keeping their distance by day.
Xiao Jue: His words are cutting, but his actions offer the fiercest protection. He quietly gets rid of every palace servant who bullies Shen Zhizhou. When Shen Zhizhou is poisoned while testing medicine, Xiao Jue stays up all night channeling his inner energy to force the poison out. In the end, he is willing to surrender his military command and give up the glory of being a god of war, asking only that “Zhizhou find a safe harbor.”
Shen Zhizhou: He protects Xiao Jue in gentle, unobtrusive ways. To cure Xiao Jue’s poison, he risks his own health to research remedies. At court, he uses his intelligence and medical skills to foil one political ambush after another.
