The protagonist, Lin Zixiao, is a direct descendant of the "Lin Family Tongkou", a wealthy family, but his father has prohibited him from having any contact with the Tongtang affairs since he was a child. He thought it was feudal superstition until his father died suddenly and mysteriously. Before his death, he clutched in his hand a half-torn old hall list (a list of immortal families enshrined by Chuma Xian).
