“Forgive my boldness, Your Majesty, but I wish to marry His Highness the Crown Prince.”
The emperor was momentarily lost in thought. He was fairly sure he had heard those words about two years earlier, when the Crown Prince had exchanged all his achievements for the right to say:
“Forgive your son for his boldness, Father. I ask to marry Miss Tang Yuanzhu of the Chancellor's household.”
