Lu Chenzhou, a young modern historian, transmigrates to Bianjing in the late Northern Song. Armed with a thousand years of historical knowledge, he hopes to save the collapsing empire alongside the remarkable Zhao Mingli. But against the iron walls of the age, he can only struggle until he is bloodied. At last, in despair, he lights the spark that will preserve civilization, completing a tragic transformation from “observer of history” to “bearer of history’s burdens.”
Despair from what is known, hope in what is unknown: when someone knows how every tragedy ends, how can they find meaning in a current of history whose course is already set?
