A sudden upheaval sends He Ye, Mo Ling, San Qi, and two others tumbling into the Backrooms, an otherworldly space made up of endless mazes and terrifying entities. From the yellow hell of Level 0 to the data abyss of Level 37, they face deadly threats such as Facelings and Smilers. They also discover that the M.E.G. organization is using its “Primordial Gate” project as a cover for its plan to sacrifice wanderers and summon an evil god.
The five unexpectedly awaken the power of the “Key.” Each with their own talents, they form a team and press onward through betrayal and sacrifice. They traverse uncanny levels such as the Mirror Corridor, the Void Library, and the Sea of Serenity, uncover the truth that the Backrooms are a “prison of mirrored realities,” and confront the “Night Watcher,” guardian of the rules, and the primordial paradox.
This adventure across countless levels is both a battle against an evil organization and a journey to find the meaning of existence. In the end, they rebuild the rules through emotional resonance, give the Backrooms a new beginning, and choose to stay and protect this otherworldly space, once a prison and now their home.
