The story begins in the frozen lands of the Northern Wilderness Continent. Eight-year-old Ye Chen loses his mother in the tragedy that strikes Hanyue Village. His fortunes change during one particularly cruel bout of bullying. Ye Chen is shoved deep into Hanyue Forest, and on the brink of death, the ice-crystal necklace left by his mother undergoes a strange transformation. The seal on his Ice Spirit Constitution loosens for the first time, and the surge of icy spiritual power awakens a being hidden in the deepest part of the Ice Mystic Sect: the Inner Sect's leader, Ice Elder, an unparalleled expert halfway to the Tribulation Transcendence Realm. Impressed by Ye Chen's potential and character, Ice Elder makes an exception and takes him to the mysterious Xuanyin Valley of the Inner Sect. Despite the divide between good and evil and the desperate circumstances surrounding his mother's murder, the two develop a forbidden yet sincere love. In the end, Xuan Yuexin sacrifices herself to stop her father and protect Ye Chen, using her life to ease some of the hatred.
