After Getting My Head Split Open, I Took the Compensation Money Home to Farm

(The author is making this all up, so just turn your brain off and enjoy.) [Slice of life + farming + countryside + …] When Gu Yu was in her final year of high school, she cracked her head open at school. After being rushed to the hospital for treatment, she became a vegetative patient. The doctor said the chances of her waking up were slim. Not long afterward, her grandparents heard from visiting relatives that someone else had once been in the same situation, but had woken up after a wedding was held to bring good fortune. With no other options, the old couple discussed it with Gu Yu’s uncle and aunt, then put out the word: anyone willing to marry into the family would receive a bride price of 26,000 yuan. Within days, they found a willing young man in the neighboring county. Just after the betrothal gifts had been exchanged, Gu Yu miraculously woke up. Her family was overjoyed and immediately held a wedding, welcoming the young man into their home with great celebration. With her mind in a fog, Gu Yu somehow completed life’s major milestones in a daze: she married, had a baby, and went out to work, all in less than a year. After working for over a year, she still thought she was Gu Yu herself. It wasn’t until someone cracked her skull open that she remembered she had transmigrated, and into a modern urban novel she had read, no less. She was a mere plot device who brought the heroine and hero together, and her head being cracked open was the first step in their meeting. A month later, she would be tricked into going to northern Myanmar. She never appeared again for the rest of the novel, and her fate was unknown. At the thought of being tricked into going to northern Myanmar to run pyramid schemes and have her kidneys harvested, Gu Yu panicked. She immediately packed her things, took the compensation money, and headed back to her hometown. As if! She still had her grandparents, her young husband, and her child to support. There was no way she’d get tricked into going to northern Myanmar and doing anything illegal.
