A Fierce Border General Brings Captives to the Capital, and the Martial Sects Across the Land Panic

“By the Mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: Huo Guiyun, Colonel of the Border Army, has captured the enemy chieftain Feng Bubai alive and rendered great service to the new dynasty. Huo Guiyun is hereby named General of Tiger Might and granted the concurrent rank of Vice Minister of War, second rank! Furthermore, Huo Guiyun is appointed Commissioner of the newly established Imperial Office for the Supervision of All Martial Sects, with full authority to investigate unlawful conduct among the martial sects throughout the realm and safeguard the stability of the court. May you fulfill your duties and not disappoint Us. So decreed!”

As Huo Guiyun accepted the imperial edict from the eunuch,

Su Tan, the eldest daughter of the Wuji Sect, had only just broken off her engagement to Huo Guiyun. She froze on the spot, and the document in her hand slipped soundlessly to the ground.

All joy had vanished from her face, replaced by boundless shock and a growing sense of panic.

When the news spread beyond the capital, martial sects across the land trembled in fear.

“I may not take back everything that belongs to my Huo family, but you won’t get to keep everything you have now, either.”
