From the spring of 1938 to the winter of 1939, the core centered on the Battle of Wuhan (June to October 1938), and extended to the latent stage after the fall of Wuhan. At this time, the Anti-Japanese War entered the early stage of a strategic stalemate. The Japanese army was arrogant but its supply lines were stretched. The Nationalist Government moved westward to Chongqing. Wuhan became a temporary military and political hub and the core battlefield of espionage warfare, where all forces were intertwined.
