Pure angst, System, cultivation, two male leads
“I was ordered to love you, but ordered to leave you. Then the snow fell for three thousand years, and I could never find another you.”
Feng Zhimu is a specialist in the “leftovers” department of the Space-Time Bureau, assigned to play background characters. System 006 is a sharp-tongued, socially savvy little bundle whose full-time job is cleaning up after him.
The two had just scraped through their credits in a school-life world and were hoping to lie flat, when they were kicked into a cultivation world. Their mission: win over Pei Xuanqing, the aloof beauty of Qingyan Sect and an immortal venerable who follows the Heartless Dao.
Feng Zhimu plans to keep slacking off, but the moment he sees the immortal venerable in white, his heart races out of control.
And so the proud big bad wolf turns into an clingy puppy in an instant, pestering him relentlessly, never fighting back or talking back, and packaging his true feelings as if they were part of a scripted game:
The first time, he fakes his death in Pei Xuanqing’s arms, leaving a crack in his Heartless Dao.
The second time, after his affection meter reaches full, he fakes his death. Pei Xuanqing’s heart shatters, and he falls into demonic cultivation, becoming a Demon Venerable.
The third time, Feng Zhimu is ordered to erase Pei Xuanqing’s corruption score, but everything falls apart when Pei Xuanqing overhears him. It turns out every “I love you” was only part of a System mission.
Pei Xuanqing wants to push him away, yet cannot stop himself from holding him tighter. Feng Zhimu wants to stay, but in the end he must go on to the next plot.
Love and lies pull them back and forth, sharpening their romance into a blade of snow that cuts deeper into both their hearts with every inch.
In the end, the immortal venerable falls gravely ill from sorrow and dies after his strength is spent and his long insomnia takes its toll. Feng Zhimu keeps his feelings and wanders through endless little worlds, but never finds another face exactly like his.
Later, Qingyan Sect establishes an ironclad rule: its disciples must never fall in love.
Among the common folk, only one nursery rhyme is passed down:
“The immortal venerable breaks the snow, the disciple breaks his heart;
Once gone from Chang’an, there’s no return.”
