The shrewd, unhinged capitalist Zeno vs. the resilient, gentle Chen Mo
Rekindled romance after a breakup + possessive pursuit + heartrending love
Zeno, a capitalist from Country G, is shrewd and capable. But after political rivals scheme against his family business and his first love breaks up with him, he heads to Southeast Asia to seek investment and save the company. Along the way, he falls for Chen Mo. At first, he cannot let go of his first love. He dates Chen Mo only to get over the breakup as quickly as possible and to shield his first love from retaliation by his political enemies. He uses Chen Mo as a “smokescreen” to divert their attention.
What Zeno never expected was how deeply Chen Mo loved him. When he is kidnapped, Chen Mo spends most of her savings searching for help and decides to call the police. Instead, she is abducted by his enemies and used as leverage against him. To her shock, he cruelly abandons her, and Chen Mo’s heart finally breaks. (There is a misunderstanding.)
To win Chen Mo back, Zeno secretly watches her from the house next door for an entire year. Then he sets a trap and lures her into his sphere of influence in Country G, discarding his disguise and forcing her into marriage.
“Even if you die, you’ll die by my side!”
In the end, Zeno finally understands what love built on equality and freedom should be. He begs her, “Xiao Mo, please don’t look at me like that. I love you. Please, have pity on me too.”
