Mutation: I Rely on Walking Trees to Feed My Family

[Mutations + farming + cute pets + heartwarming healing + no villains + no romance]

This isn’t a wish-fulfillment novel. There are no mindless villains. It’s simply a story about a family healing and saving one another after the world changes. The pacing is slow, without sudden shocks or dramatic ups and downs. If that’s not your style, feel free to move on.

Thirty years ago, an energy called “Origin Matter” surged up from beneath the earth, changing the entire world.

Concrete and steel crumbled away, and old buildings collapsed one after another.

Glowing vines spread across the ruins, while enormous trees capable of sheltering people grew out of the ground.

Plants and animals all mutated. Only those who formed a “mindstream bond” with animals could truly survive in this world.

The Old Bridge settlement collapsed.

Lin Jianqiu set out to find a new home with her talkative mother, her timid, sensitive younger brother,

a dog whose fur glowed, and a black cat whose pupils could turn red.

While others struggle to survive, she builds a home.

While others fight over supplies, she grows sweetstem grass.

While others look for somewhere to hide, she moves into a walking tree.

Winter is coming.

Within ninety days, she must find a place with stable temperatures, edible plants, a tree to live in, and clean water.

Until one day, she stands at the entrance to the Free Settlement

and the tree gate opens by itself.

[Home isn’t a house. It’s the light left on in the middle of the night.]

[True strength is seeing the wounds of the past and still choosing to move forward.]
