I'm Sixty This Year, and the Military District's Bigwigs Are Crazy About Me

Modern state-banquet chef Lin Suxin had spent her whole life working herself to the bone. Just after winning the Golden Ladle Award, she died suddenly from overwork. When she opened her eyes again, she had been reborn as Jiang Shufen, the universally loathed and dreaded mother-in-law in a military compound in the 1960s!

The original Jiang Shufen had made life miserable for everyone, driving her daughter-in-law Su Qingyue into depression and alienating her officer son Gu Zhenjun. Even her own granddaughter feared her like a tiger. Just after being reborn, Lin Suxin found herself in a nightmare of a family showdown: her son wanted to divorce his wife for the sake of his “one true love.”

Lin Suxin (Jiang Shufen): “Divorce him! Absolutely! I’ll kick this scumbag to the curb for you!”

To the astonishment of everyone in the compound, she took her daughter-in-law to file for divorce, leaving her own son pounding the ground and bawling.

From then on, everything in the military compound changed.

The former wicked mother-in-law turned the world upside down with a spatula in hand. She whipped up Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, cabbage in clear broth, and other long-lost state-banquet dishes with ease, making the big shots at the neighboring military compound drool and winning over the pickiest commanding officers.

She helped her daughter-in-law open a shop and her granddaughter succeed, and soon they were living the good life. Along the way, she even became an unlikely friend to He Yan, the young, handsome, and promising new star of the military compound.

He Yan always felt that a fascinating young soul lived behind Grandma Jiang’s eyes. He watched her ruthlessly deal with scoundrels, calmly prepare exquisite dishes, and cunningly lay her plans. Before he knew it, his heart had fallen for her.

He Yan: “Auntie Jiang, could I… try some of your braised pork?”

Jiang Shufen (Lin Suxin) narrowed her eyes and smiled. “Call me Grandma, young man.”
