Lin Lang, deputy section chief at the power company, is handsome, refined, and composed.
By chance, he meets Shao Qidong, who runs an auto repair shop.
Shao Qidong fixes his car and water heater, invites him to the Peking opera, and somehow ends up moving in across the hall from him.
One night, Lin Lang is surrounded by a group of men. Shao Qidong floors the gas and crashes through them, becoming his self-appointed protector from then on.
Later, Lin Lang finds a tracking device in his car. That ambush, the heroic rescue, every approach and show of affection, had all been part of a carefully planned script.
He uses evidence of all Shao Qidong’s crimes to bargain for his freedom.
Shao Qidong falls to his knees and begs him, but Lin Lang never looks back.
After a transaction between equals, Lin Lang gets married. On the wedding day, Shao Qidong arrives with a dagger, ready to fulfill his promise: traitors must be punished.
Later, that knife is thrown into the trash.
When they meet again, Shao Qidong has become the head of a top financial dynasty, while proud, principled Lin Lang is destitute and homeless.
Shao Qidong takes him in and treats him well, becoming the only glimmer of light in Lin Lang’s bleak world.
Later, Lin Lang realizes that Shao Qidong was not the one who lit the lamp for him, but the one who turned it off.
Lin Lang struggles, while Shao Qidong controls everything.
“The love I want is to be the one and only top priority in your life.”
The top is a complete psychopath. A melodramatic, angst-filled story. Read with caution.
