As the stars rot into pulsing purple scars, deep-space cargo hauler Chen Mo awakens in the silence. A warning left by his mother ten years ago appears on the ship's bulkhead, while the stars beyond the window are being devoured by an entity known as the Star Abyss. Accompanied by the eerie cry of a baby, he is forced to bind himself to the [Deep-Space Echo System], a survival program written in his deceased mother's dialect.
The System informs him that humanity has long been nothing more than bacteria in the Star Abyss's dream, and that he is Experiment No. 47. The previous 46 subjects all became eternal prisoners of the Folded Zone. Before his perception completely disintegrates, he must collect “Echo Shards,” confront countless versions of himself across different timelines in the cargo hold, and enter the point where the Star Abyss gazes from within the engine room.
Yet the truth is even crueler: the System was created by his mother, Lin Su, who entered the rift ahead of him. The Star Abyss yearns for “sound,” and laughter is the only weapon. When Chen Mo tears open his chest and makes himself the rift, he chooses neither oblivion nor assimilation. Instead, he becomes an “anomalous frequency” the Star Abyss cannot understand.
This is a journey in search of truth through a decaying universe, where every choice creates new folds in time. As the last humans scream in silence, he will use his pollution-corroded body to carve the first human echo between the stars and the void.
