A friendly reminder: This story is very tightly paced, with a particularly fast rhythm. Each short story takes one or two chapters.
Gu Ren transmigrates into the last emperor and binds himself to the Tyrant System.
The System says that if he successfully brings about the fall of the nation, he can return to the modern era.
Gu Ren grins. “I know how to do this!”
And so he immediately sets out to bring about his own ruin:
He imposes heavy taxes and levies, only for the treasury to overflow and the people to praise him.
He promotes treacherous officials, only for the treacherous Buddha to become a loyal minister for the ages and work his colleagues into the ground.
He launches massive construction projects, only to accidentally spark the Industrial Revolution.
Gu Ren's reports showing the nation's growing fortunes, along with his supposedly “treacherous” officials' unwavering loyalty, slam the progress bar for the nation's downfall right in the System's face. “This game is full of bugs!”
System: “...Is it possible, Host, that you were simply born to become an emperor for the ages?”
[Why does an incompetent ruler who's determined to slack off keep building an eternal golden age by sheer accident?]
