Impression of Brother Bao

Bao is one of the Chinese surnames, ranking 62nd in the Hundred Family Surnames. In our area, most people surnamed Bao are Wa, and Brother Bao is no exception. He is Wa as well. In the early 1980s, Bao, a high school graduate, took advantage of a public recruitment drive by the public security authorities and became a police officer. He later served as deputy head of the criminal investigation squad. I met Brother Bao on my first day reporting for work. I had been assigned to the criminal investigation squad, and he came to the political department to meet me. He looked young, so I warmly called him Brother Bao. But he thought I was still a mere youngster and told me to call him Uncle instead. I had no choice but to call him Uncle Bao. A few years later, as I grew more mature, I called him Uncle Bao again, but then he complained that I was making him sound old and told me to call him Brother Bao. I still do to this day.

Brother Bao is both my mentor and my friend. Over the years, with his diligence, meticulousness, honesty, and simplicity, he taught me many skills at work and looked after me in every way in life. At the same time, his humor and wit brought me many touching and joyful moments. Here are two or three stories to express how much I miss him.
