Chen Ran, a senior mechanical engineering student at Xi’an Jiaotong University, stumbles across a recording of a lower-tier soccer match one anxious autumn recruiting night: the opening round of the 2025 Xiang Super League, where Zhuzhou narrowly beat Hengyang 3–2 away from home. The grit and teamwork shown in the muddy downpour by this “amateur” team of company employees, high school students, and teachers strikes a chord with him. Though he has already secured a job at a top research institute in Wuhan, he makes a decision that infuriates his meticulous engineer father: he signs with Zhuzhou’s Spark Heavy Industries, just to get one step closer to that pitch.
But reality turns out to be another tightly controlled assembly line. After joining the company, he discovers that not a single person at this factory of tens of thousands plays on the team, and soccer is considered a “high-risk, nonstandard project.” Facing his father’s doubts, workplace rules, and the difficulties of building a team from scratch, Chen Ran draws on the “systems thinking” and engineering methods his father taught him to carve out a compliant “pilot production line” for his passion: writing project reports, improving risk management, and balancing work and training.
From making the team against the odds to the start of the league, from building chemistry in friendly matches to the crucible of the final, Chen Ran must learn not only how to direct play on the pitch, but also how to fine-tune his life between reality and dreams, and between his father’s expectations and his own fulfillment. In the end, he proves that the greatest systems engineering project of all is steadily producing a miracle called “passion” within a framework called “reality.”
It's pretty good. It perfectly and truly shows the live action of the Hunan Super League. It makes people excited to watch it. It is also cleverly integrated into the study and life of the protagonist. Its powerful system analysis ability just makes up for the curiosity of us pseudo-fans 👍
The author is a Zhuzhou fan, so he writes very well. The description of the Zhuzhou team's game was very kind and vivid in my mind. Come on!
