Era coordinates: 2003 to the spring of 2006.
In response to the foreign trade blowout after China's accession to the WTO, the pain under macroeconomic control, the booming manufacturing industry and the proliferation of gray areas, the ascendant Internet, and the social mentality that is fiercely torn between the dream of getting rich and the pressure of survival, it is a specific historical stage.
An outsider works hard in a strange city, and goes from being a survivor to being a load-bearing leader. Struggling to survive in the cracks of the times. Full of sense of the times, environmental pollution, pyramid schemes, gray industries, etc...
It reflects that in that era, the protagonist and his companions were ordinary people standing on the edge of the boiling cauldron of the times, witnessing the desires and sins rolling in the cauldron, trying to protect a small area of "cleanness" around them, and eventually evolving from passive "watchers" to active "dam builders".
