In a city long abandoned, towering ruins stretch into the clouds. On a broad, desolate street, a running figure looks as tiny as an ant.
The image is displayed in sync on the special forces squad’s visors.
“An A-rank superpowered individual has been identified as the target of this mission. There may be casualties. Would you like me to take command?”
The mechanical female voice is gentle yet composed, like that of a poised older sister.
“Ant” Zhang Wan runs while glancing at the countdown on his wrist. He silently stops and carefully studies his surroundings.
“Three, two, one.”
The man’s voice is slightly breathless, but his tone is calm.
As the rain warning countdown ends, raindrops the size of beans begin to fall right on cue.
At first, the rain patters lightly, then grows heavier. In just a few seconds, it is pouring. The cold acid rain corrodes clothing and causes waves of stinging pain, while rapidly draining body heat and leaving people shivering.
The red dot marking the target disappears from the display. The squad leader frowns, and the visor interface flickers before switching rapidly.
“Thermal detection system offline. ‘Wild Bee’ activated. Searching for target. Please wait.”
