The Incense Rekindles

Reborn, she would no longer fight for the emperor's favor. She would burn a single incense stick to protect those she loved.

In her previous life, she was Consort Yan, Su Qingyan, a pale shadow in the emperor's eyes. Her sisters all became sacrifices in the palace intrigues. As she drank the poisoned wine, she regretted only that she had trusted his tenderness and given her heart to the wrong man.

When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the time before her name was submitted to the palace register and before their first meeting. She was still the daughter of a condemned official, and her hatred remained as fierce as ever. But what she clutched tightly in her palm was no longer a delusion of clinging to power. It was the rough cloth sachet her mother had left her, filled with heart-protecting incense.

This time, Su Qingyan saw everything clearly:

The tender Emperor Xiao Che had nothing in his heart but the empty image of his dearly departed first love. His deep devotion was nothing but a mask for political schemes.

The beautiful daughter of a military family, Liu Yanran, entered the palace carrying her clan's generations-old feud and poisonous incense. Every step she took was a deadly trap.

And the rigid hierarchy and imperial favor of the inner palace were nothing but threads hanging around everyone's neck.

She wanted none of it.

Given another life, she wanted only one thing: to protect the sisters who had died horribly for her in her past life, and overturn the blood-soaked ending that had already been written.
