Marriage first, love later / a sweet, slow-burn romance. Song Shuci is set to marry Sheng Yu, the current head of the Sheng family: an aloof, refined man who has always handled things strictly by the book and shown no mercy.
To escape her family’s control, Song Shuci stayed abroad after graduating from university and became a war correspondent.
At twenty-five, her father threatened to force her home to marry for the sake of an alliance, using her mother, who was in a psychiatric hospital, as leverage.
After they marry, a tabloid story breaks that Sheng Yu kissed a woman in the street.
Sheng Yu looks up at the reporters, flashes the ring on his left hand, and says coolly:
“What? Is it illegal to kiss my own wife?”
Then he looks away and turns his gaze lightly toward the reporter who broke the story.
“Which outlet do you work for?”
At some point, the man who had always been so cool and composed began lowering his head for her, again and again.
The time he lost control the most was when Sheng Yu received a photo of her with another man from years ago and his eyes reddened on the spot.
He pins her beneath him and demands,
“Song Shuci, do you have a heart? What else do I have to do to make you keep only me in yours?”
Song Shuci is just about to answer when Sheng Yu wraps an arm around her waist and deepens the kiss.
