(No System + Being Pursued + Multiple Women + No Angst + Love Rivalry)
On a rainy night, Yongjie passed an unmonitored dead-end alley on his way by.
Four thugs surrounded a girl in a shabby green padded coat, a scar marking her right cheek.
He was about to walk away without a second glance.
But the girl looked straight at him in the shadows and called out gently:
“Brother, you're here.”
The thugs spun around, furious.
“Mind your own business? Leave your phone, or we'll break both your hands!”
The woman shouted as the three men lunged at him.
Yongjie moved. He tossed his black umbrella toward the corner, and a dagger flashed.
In an instant, one man was bleeding from the shoulder and neck, howling in pain. Another had a deep gash across his arm. The third was knocked unconscious by a powerful punch.
He coughed, an old injury aching faintly.
He grabbed the stunned woman by the throat and pressed the bloodstained dagger against her neck.
“I said I was just passing by.”
His icy warning mingled with the sound of the rain.
He let go, and the woman crumpled to the ground.
He walked over to the girl in the corner and lifted her into his arms. She was unnaturally light.
He picked up his umbrella and walked into the rain.
In the distance, a taxi picked up the four battered thugs.
The driver, Old Liu, looked at their wounds and shook his head. “He held back. You might not be so lucky next time.”
Yongjie held the girl in his arms. Dirt and scars crisscrossed her face, and she appeared to be unconscious.
Suddenly, her tightly shut eyelids quivered almost imperceptibly, and the faintest, hardest-to-detect smile touched her lips.
The rainy night was still long.
And on a whim, by “passing by,” he seemed to have picked up a girl.
It's still very good and worth seeing.
I'm curious, what will the author write next?
