The Lying Exorcist Meets a Taoist Who’s Afraid to Die

Bai Ye, a con-artist exorcist, crosses paths with Shen Xuan, a Taoist priest who's afraid to die.

The two argue over how to split the money in front of a vengeful ghost, nearly coming to blows. It's the most harmonious moment they ever share.

Later, Bai Ye becomes the seed for the Ghost Refining Sect's creation of a "Deeply Devoted Fiend."

Shen Xuan burns away his memories to use a forbidden technique, forgetting the first talisman his master taught him.

Later still, they form the Echoes team, taking on the jobs no one else dares to accept:

From a pianist who turns pain into music, to an extra trapped in a single line for twenty years...

The more people they save, the more they realize something is wrong.

Every lingering obsession they soothe was once turned into an emotion jade token by the same "Collector" and catalogued by number.

When a hundred ghosts roam the streets, the whole city falls into despair.

He says, "All beings suffer, but little lights can flow together like a river."

He says, "Merit isn't a number. It's the weight of being alive."
