My name is Dai Pai, and I’m a fishman. My physical abilities are ten times greater than a human’s.
My dad is human, a navy admiral of the Blue-and-White Porcelain Republic. My mom is a royal princess from the fishman kingdom, and my uncle is the head of state of the Spark Republic. I was two meters tall at twelve. My superpower is mimicry, rated D+... or so I tell people.
I threw every match in the ranking tournament because I was afraid I’d scare off my classmates. One judge was so furious he threw down the scorecard. “Are you here to compete, or to perform conceptual art?” Later, they told me to take it seriously, so I did. I threw one punch, and my opponent went flying. After that happened in several matches in a row, all my opponents forfeited. The judge tossed aside the microphone. “I’m never judging his matches again. Not even for extra pay.”
The whole school thinks I’m a monster. Only my roommate knows I’m just an unlucky student who can stay underwater a little longer than other people, learns a little faster, and calculates how many days someone will be in pain before hitting them.
Connections don’t count for much in the ranking tournament. I can only do my best and come in first.
