Tao Tie, a descendant of gatekeepers saddled with a million in debt, is bound to the Shan Hai Property System to pay it off. He takes over Xinshanhai Gardens, a community for spirit beasts on the verge of bankruptcy.
His duties include, but aren’t limited to: delivering fire extinguishers to the divine bird Bifang, unclogging the drains for the divine deer Fuzhu, mediating a brawl between Dang Kang and Taotie over “whose vegetable garden smells better,” and stopping the Queen Mother of the West’s resurrection scheme from infiltrating the community’s green spaces.
He thought it was just a job, until he met Bai Jiujiu, a spirit beast researcher, and the life-saving “True Knowledge” legacy in her possession.
Later, the osmanthus trees bloomed in the community, and they had a baby with fox ears, the power of Taotie, and a passion for sneaking bites of rainbow cakes. The Queen Mother of the West’s shadow still lurks, but this time she faces more than a lone gatekeeper. She faces an impregnable home built on love, where every household’s lights shine together.
Core premise: A debt-ridden divine beast caretaker × a spirit beast researcher. Through food deliveries and missions, they build and protect a happy little neighborhood inspired by the Classic of Mountains and Seas from the ground up. In the end, they find success in both love and work, and raise a divine beast baby adored by the whole community.
