I was put off by the name many times at the beginning, but the first chapter is very attractive and interesting. The protagonist here is just a mortal, hungry and afraid. I hope there will be more portrayal of Maria later on, and I hope she will say "Mom, I'm worried about you" (I can't remember where I saw it). John's image is quite rich.
