No Connections, Born to a Poor Family? My Broadcaster's Voice Shakes the Capital

By a stack of wheat in the Loess Plateau, Lin Mang was the poor kid from a single-parent family whom his entire class mocked. His mother was bedridden, and their three mu of barren farmland could barely support them, let alone pay for the costly broadcasting arts exams.

His classmates sneered that he was “a toad dreaming of eating swan meat,” while his homeroom teacher bluntly told him, “Kids from poor families shouldn't dream of getting into a top university.” But Lin Mang clutched a secondhand radio, practiced his delivery between shifts hauling bricks at construction sites, and copied passages from broadcasting textbooks under the covers, building his dream with sweat and grit.

The encouragement of a mentor from the city radio station and support from a charity fund gave him the means to fight back. At the arts entrance exam, he stunned the judges with a piece called “Broadcasting from the Wheat Fields.” As the college entrance exams approached, he stayed up late catching up on academic subjects and overcoming his weaknesses.

So what if he had no money or connections? When Lin Mang stood before everyone holding his acceptance certificate from Huaxia Communication University, all the doubts turned to amazement.

From a stack of wheat in a county town to a live broadcast studio at China Central Television, this is the fiery story of a poor young man who changed his fate with his broadcaster's voice and took the capital by storm!
