This is a story about choices and their cost.
In a decaying empire under threat from powerful enemies, three close friends once vowed to save their age together: Lin Zhan, an idealistic general; Xiao Yu, an ambitious prince; and Su Muyu, a sagacious strategist.
But their different paths will ultimately tear them apart. One holds fast to justice and the people, tempered amid blood and fire. Another sinks into schemes and iron-fisted rule, pressing forward in lonely heights. When the enemy's iron hooves trample the land, their shattered friendship and the empire's fate are together pushed to the brink of a final battle.
In the deepest darkness before dawn, each will answer the same question in his own way: How can this age be saved? This is a story of betrayal and loyalty, but also of how, after trauma, a faint light can be rebuilt from the ashes.
