The story takes place in the Hua Xia Nation in 3066, on the eve of humanity's entry into interstellar exploration. Civilian exoskeletons, biological 3D printing, and quantum communications are widespread, while gene editing and synthetic biology have reached advanced levels. Countries around the world have built numerous marine research stations and artificial islands in the South China Sea and the Pacific. In the defense industry, technological breakthroughs have been made in miniaturized nuclear reactors, electromagnetic weapons, and laser defense systems.
Beneath this prosperous facade, the bioweapon "Corrupt Soul Virus," secretly developed by the multinational biotech giant Huisheng Group, is accidentally released. The virus spreads through both aerosols and bodily fluids, with an incubation period of 72 hours. Within three hours of falling ill, people lose consciousness and become zombies with an intense urge to attack. As the virus evolves, it can mutate into fast-moving and powerful variants, as well as leader-type zombies with rudimentary intelligence. It can also infect marine life, creating a dual apocalypse on land and sea.
Within three months of the outbreak, more than 90% of the world's population has been infected or killed. Cities have been reduced to ruins, governments around the world have collapsed, and humanity has entered a lawless wasteland of an apocalypse.
