Back to 2012: My Everyday Life Studying Abroad

After working late into the night, 26-year-old office drone Xia Zhi dies suddenly, only to open her eyes in a high school classroom in 2012, back in her senior year. In her hand is the math test covered in red Xs. Regrets from her previous life come flooding back: neglecting her studies, missing her chance to study abroad, losing friendships, and letting the rise of social media pass her by.

This time, she is determined to rewrite her life! By day, she becomes a top student making a comeback, pushing toward the college entrance exams alongside her childhood friend and competing with her top-student deskmate as she strives to win a place to study in Vancouver. By night, she shoulders an old digital camera and captures the warmth of everyday meals for one, sharing food tutorials and snippets of her studies on the newly emerging Weibo.

From an obscure account with barely a dozen likes to an early internet celebrity with a million followers; from the tiny desk in her senior-year classroom to Vancouver’s streets strewn with falling maple leaves. Riding the waves of her era, Xia Zhi turns the ordinary routines of studying, going abroad, cooking, and gaming into a vibrant story of making a comeback.

This is a journey through youth, growth, and redemption, and an inspiring story of an ordinary person who, after being reborn, firmly takes hold of her own destiny.
