This work breaks out of the conventions of traditional treasure-appraisal articles and is cut from the ordinary perspective of a "stone player". However, in the progressive narrative, it unfolds into an epic about the survival of Chinese civilization. The beginning of the novel is very confusing: an ordinary person who is addicted to collecting strange stones gets involved in trouble because of a Yellow River stone. This narrative strategy of "little people leveraging big history" naturally eliminates the sense of distance in grand narratives. The protagonist goes from being obsessed with the aesthetics of strange stones at the beginning, to being forced to embark on the dangerous path of "sending the stone back to heaven", and finally to guarding China in his mortal body.
