The Madam Always Plays by the Rules

I’ve been a stickler for the law since I was a kid. When something happens, I call the police.

My grandma says I’m stubborn, my classmates say I’m no fun, and my boss says I take everything too seriously.

But I remember what they said on that legal education show: if your lawful rights and interests are violated, call 110 promptly.

So when the bathroom door suddenly swung open, my hand stopped mid-wash as I rinsed my hair.

My husband’s childhood sweetheart, Jiang Sitian, was pointing her phone at me, its camera glowing red.

“We’re both women. What are you getting worked up about?” She rolled her eyes. Instead of leaving, she stepped closer, moving her phone camera up and down. “Let’s see just how much ‘there’ is to you, like Cheng Zheng keeps bragging.”

Cheng Zheng’s voice came from outside the door. “What’s going on?”

Jiang Sitian replied casually, “Your sister-in-law got back from a business trip and was taking a shower when I walked in on her.”

She paused, then raised her voice on purpose so everyone outside could hear: “By the way, she’s not as ‘well-endowed’ as you said, Cheng Zheng. That little belly, that waistline, tsk.”

I turned off the tap, wiped the water from my face, and looked at her seriously. “Under Article 42 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law, anyone who peeps on, secretly films or records, or spreads another person’s private information faces up to five days’ detention or a fine of up to 500 yuan.”

Jiang Sitian froze, then burst out laughing. “Oh, look at you reciting the law! I’m just taking a picture, making a joke. Is that really necessary, ”

Before she could finish, I wrapped myself in a towel, stepped out of the shower, and picked up my phone from the sink.

“Hello, 110? I’d like to report a crime.”
