A modern engineering crew awoke the sleeping Emperor of the Underworld, A Wu, who had been buried for tens of thousands of years. She realized that the balance between yin and yang was in chaos and was preparing to use her powers to set things right when several bolts of heavenly lightning struck her. Reduced to a remnant soul, she lost all her cultivation and could no longer return to the underworld. By chance, she discovered that merit could restore and strengthen her, so she began relieving resentment, battling evil ghosts, correcting the order of the mortal world, and gathering merit.
