Magneto in Stranger Things

On a summer day in California in 1979, Mark revealed his secret ability to control metal beneath the swings in a park. There, he also met Max, a girl with a bob haircut and a skateboard. Sunlight, sandy beaches, and flying metal fragments bore witness to their innocent affection. But the gears of fate suddenly began to turn. At fifteen, Mark was forced to move to the remote town of Hawkins, Indiana, because of a change in his family’s work. The metal skateboard pendant they exchanged at parting became a treasured reminder across the miles.

In 1983, Hawkins’s peace was shattered by the disappearance of Will Byers. Mark’s hidden powers finally had a use in this fog-shrouded town. He could manipulate metal pipes to clear a path and use metal fragments to fend off unknown dangers. After meeting Eleven, he was no longer a lonely “freak.” He officially joined Mike’s group, using his magnetic powers to help them fight the monsters from the Upside Down and uncover the secrets of the laboratory.

In 1984, Max’s sudden transfer set Mark’s heart racing the moment she walked into a classroom at Hawkins High. Before the joy of their reunion could fade, the shadow of the Upside Down once again fell over the town. Will’s visions, Billy’s bullying, and the monsters’ return bound the two tightly together. Through one life-and-death adventure after another, Mark’s metal-manipulating ability became a blade protecting his friends, while Max’s courage and wit repeatedly helped them overcome danger. Their feelings grew as they fought side by side, from the shy handholding of California to standing together through life and death in Hawkins. Together with the rest of the group, they ventured deep into the Upside Down and uncovered more mysteries about superpowers, the laboratory, and other dimensions.
