Second First Love: A Romance Novelist Meets a Straight-Laced Coach

Jing, a divorced writer, writes on a dating site: "I long for regular companionship, someone I can sit around doing nothing with."

She meets Sheng, an entrepreneurship coach and single father who believes "solving problems is more useful than talking about feelings."

At their first meeting, he tries to impress her by treating her to two meals, while she designs a logo for his club. He asks her age, and she counters, "If all you want is a marriage certificate, I'll tell you."

Artistic sensibility and practicality begin to collide: she analyzes emotions like she's deconstructing a novel, while he handles conflicts like customer complaints; she sends him healing anime, and he replies with videos about "energy management"; she longs for deep emotional understanding, while he lives by "actions matter more than words."

When she shares her insights and gets only his reply, "That's so anime," she suddenly understands: they live in two different worlds. She seeks profound understanding in the emotional dimension, while he builds a fortress of safety in the real world.

This is a clumsy lesson in "how to love properly": what happens when finely tuned feelings meet practical action, and old scars encounter new courage. Two adults, both burned by reality, try to build a narrow bridge of mutual understanding between two dimensions, amid debt bills, raising children, and the shadows of former partners.

A second first love isn't about rekindling an old fire. It's about two stars from different galaxies learning to shine at each other's frequency.
