The Outcast: Feng Baobao's Wandering Story

The Amnesiac Innocent’s Journey

At an ordinary dawn, a girl named Feng Baobao, carrying a tattered blue cloth bundle on her back, walks alone down a gentle slope and joins the stream of people waking up in a small town somewhere in southern China.

She remembers that her name is Feng Baobao. She remembers a woman called Aunt Xu who taught her how to make a fire, find her way, and wash her hands, and told her, “Just keep walking. You’ll get somewhere eventually.” Then Aunt Xu disappeared. With only a few copper coins to her name and a bewilderment utterly out of place in this era, she steps into a dusty, bustling human world she cannot begin to understand.

This is a wandering epic that views the turmoil of life through the eyes of an innocent. The story follows Feng Baobao, a girl carrying the mystery of immortality, with no memories and unfathomable strength. Starting at a street corner in a remote town, she gradually steps into a wider, more complex, and more dangerous martial world and the currents of her era. She will meet people consumed by greed, anger, delusion, and folly; encounter travelers whose kindness and malice are intertwined; come into contact with hidden currents of the extraordinary beneath ordinary life; and, over the course of a long search, pick up scattered, cold fragments of her broken past.

This is a slow-paced story! If you’re hoping to see Sister Bao slaughter her way through everyone from the very beginning, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait.

Because the second protagonist is none other than the people of the world.
