Wu Xi'an, driven to seek work in a pleasure house tea salon to save her sick father.
Lu Shangmeng, a wealthy young woman who fell from the clouds into the mud.
One is gentle and restrained.
The other is fierce and unyielding.
On the day her father fell gravely ill, Wu Xi'an knelt and begged for a chance to work at the Mingyue Pavilion.
There she met Lu Shangmeng, a wealthy young woman sold into the place by her gambling-addict father, who would rather die than bow her head.
"Don't touch me!"
Lu Shangmeng slapped a customer across the face and was beaten viciously in return.
"You have to stay alive."
Late that night, Wu Xi'an quietly applied medicine to her wounds, speaking softly.
Wu Xi'an brought Lu Shangmeng food and medicine and looked after her.
When Wu Xi'an was bullied, Lu Shangmeng grabbed the ax used to chop firewood in the back courtyard.
"Anyone who lays a hand on her will bleed."
The people in the back courtyard: "She's crazy..."
But the world is full of strange people.
Wu Xi'an's composure finally cracked. She took up a butcher's knife, and blood spilled across the long street.
When Wu Xi'an's painting was destroyed, she raised her gun, and its shot rang out through the streets.
"She's a vengeful spirit come down to earth!"
