Gu Nanzhi doesn’t want to marry Yue Beichen, a man she has never even met. They have no connection whatsoever, but her father, Gu Zhen, has put her marriage on the agenda. He angrily tells Nanzhi that she was spoiled growing up in the Gu family, and that marrying Yue Beichen is a match her parents chose for her. She has no say in the matter. Yue Beichen is the Grand Tutor’s son, and this marriage is quite a step up for the Gu family. Marry him, and she’ll enjoy wealth and luxury for the rest of her life, living in comfort and security.
He has heard that Miss Gu, Gu Nanzhi, is gentle and modest. She is exactly the sort of well-bred young woman his father picked out for him as a wife. But there are so many ladies like that; surely she’ll be boring.
He never expected this Gu girl to be so rebellious. Gu Nanzhi tore up their betrothal agreement and ran away. What would become of the dignity of the Grand Tutor’s son? He wanted to know why Gu Nanzhi was dissatisfied with him.
While fleeing her wedding, Gu Nanzhi happens to encounter Yue Beichen. The two fall for each other.
On their wedding day, he raises an eyebrow and smiles at Gu Nanzhi. “Didn’t you say you’d rather die than marry Gu Beichen? You even ran away and tore up the betrothal agreement. I had to search for so long before I found the woman I love.” Gu Nanzhi looks aggrieved.
Her big eyes flutter, and two tears spill down her cheeks. “Husband, I didn’t know Gu Beichen was you.”
Seeing Gu Nanzhi’s tears, Yue Beichen gently wipes them away, his heart suddenly aching. “Gu Nanzhi, I’ll spend my whole life making you happy.” She lies in Yue Beichen’s arms, laughing brightly and sweetly. “Yue Beichen, I’ll remember those words for the rest of my life. Don’t you dare take them back or lie to me, or I’ll hate you.”
