During the Tiansheng period of the Da Qi Dynasty, Song Yunxi, the legitimate daughter of the Song family, a scholarly family, studied law since she was a child, but was unable to enter the officialdom because of her status as a woman. A relative of the Song family was involved in a murder case and was unjustly imprisoned. Song Yunxi took the initiative to assist Lu Jingchen, the minister of Dali Temple, in investigating the case. She relied on her keen observation to discover doubtful points, overturned wrong judgments many times, and found evidence of the real murderer from clues. After this case, although she failed to become an official, she became a special consultant of Dali Temple and helped solve many difficult cases.
